Tip 1 – Understand
what you don’t want
So many of
us apply for jobs and go to interviews for roles that we simply are not suited
to. It doesn’t matter if you can just about get by in the job, by discounting
these positions in the first place, you are focussing on the ones that will
bring you better rewards. Sometimes that interesting sounding career can
transform into a job description that isn’t quite what you were after. But if
your interviewer or hiring manager isn’t coming up trumps with these details,
let them know exactly what it is that gets you out of bed in the morning. They
will appreciate your honesty and may even have a counter offer that you’ll
prefer.
Tip 2 –
Use your achievements to tip the balance in your favour
Anybody can
construct an impressive CV and resume, but unless you add some concrete evidence
to these documents, they may as well be works of fiction. Think hard about what
you have achieved in the past, events that you are both proud of and you
believe add value to your application. Your hiring manager should be able to
spot your passion and enthusiasm and you will soon be ticking boxes for all the
right reasons.
Tip 3 –
Match your aspirations with the job description
Once you
have been invited to an interview, spend some time researching the company and
learn about how their visions match your own. If you can show clear examples of
how you can add serious value to both the role and the company, you will soon
win over your interviewers.
Tip 4 –
Understand your own ambitions
Okay, not
everyone has a blueprint laid out for the next 30 or 40 years of their working
life, but if you are able to get a handle on what you really like to do,
workwise, this will help you to pinpoint the way forward. Explain your
aspirations in the interview process and you will come across as a strong
candidate for that position and may even land the job before the next stage.
Follow these
lesser known yet invaluable tips and we can all but guarantee that your career
path will match your ambitions.
